Happy and Hungry

I just possibly had the best meeting of my entire life. It gave me direction and goals and much, much to think about.

Hey, the saying parents know best most definantly was the case today. My mother and my grandmother had suggested the meeting up with a lady we've gone to church with forever. Her name is Abi. Well,l being the child that I am, I put it off and off and then i spoke with my chemistry lab teacher and told him about the lady. He basically slapped me in the face and made me realize what an opportunity i was missing out on. I'm just not used to doing big girl things yet and was incredibly nervous to call her. But i did and set up a meeting with her today at panera. All anticipation and nervousness aside it went perfect. I was going to ask her for a letter of recomendation but didn't under the pretense that she told me to get back in touch with her after i've done a little more of my own investigating.
Abi is a professor at University of Pittsburgh, the university i'm trying so hard to get into. She had gone to school at IUP for nutrition, after school in England for something similar to hotel management. After nutrition she went back to Grad school at Pitt for Public Health in the Epidemiogoly department.
An overview from the pitt website:
Epidemiologists study the variables in human situations that may have a critical influence on the distribution of disease within populations. Students in epidemiology apply the scientific method to prevent or control disease in populations by:
Describing the frequency and causes of a disease in a defined population
Evaluating factors that may cause a disease
Conducting studies that evaluate risk-factor modifications on the subsequent frequency of a disease
But basically ended up in the field of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences :
The Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences (BCHS) prepares individuals to apply theories, concepts, and methods developed within various social and behavioral science disciplines to the development of programs that prevent illness and promote health.

My point being, she knows very much about the field of study i'm working on getting into and not taking the opportunity to meet up with her would have been my biggest regret. I guess I just had to wait until I was ready to do it. Now that I did, I feel much more prepared for anything.
She knew what level I was on, in that i was still figuring out exactly where to try and place myself, she gave me an overview of the whole entire field and some advice.

So goals:
Research Pitt's School Public Health
Figure out if Pitt offers Nutrition as opposed to Dietetics (I don't think I want to end up in a hospital setting but still want the science based background that nutrition offers).

Now time to Eat Chipolte.
